Breakfast is probably the most personal meal.
We all have our versions, our favourites, our rituals, not just what we eat and drink, but how we do it. The more I thought about it, the more I realised breakfast tells a quiet story about our habits, our moods, who we’re with (or not), and where we are in the world, or in life.
Mine changes with the moment. A busy working week in London? Always the same. On holiday? I let myself indulge. And of course, it depends on where I am. I love a proper French breakfast, pain au chocolat, freshly squeezed orange juice. But give me a Lebanese spread with labneh, zaatar, man’oushe, olives and cucumbers, and I’m just as happy.
Breakfast really is a mood.
So I’ve put together this little edit, not recipes but a collection of things and moments to inspire you next time you feel like mixing things up. Morning scenes, each shaped by the season, the setting, the feeling. Some are slow, others rushed or spontaneous, but they are all about the joy of starting the day your way.
In Bed
Mood: soft, slow and indulgent
Think: warm coffee or tea, soft-boiled egg, toast with honey. A bud vase on a tray. This is the kind of breakfast that’s less about fuel and more about feeling: hanging out in bed, reading your favourite newspaper, latest book and letting the morning stretch gently.

Solo
Mood: Quiet, intentional, just for you
Your favourite mug, bowl, spoon, whatever makes you feel cosy. I have a mug that’s been with me since my 20s, and somehow it still makes my coffee taste better. Maybe it’s your morning playlist, a podcast, breathing, stretching. A bowl of yogurt with fruits, or just silence and a black americano. This breakfast is about you and your own curation of comfort.

Summer
Mood: Big tables, bold colors, sunlight and barefoot mornings
Outside if possible. A colorful table with so many different options you don’t even know where to begin: fresh fruits, pastries, salty cheese and local favourites from the market. Think: long breakfast, loud conversations, kids running around and that holiday feeling of lying down and letting go just after even though you woke up only 2 hours ago.

Rushed But Beautiful
Mood: Fast, functional but always with style
These are the winter mornings, the routine ones where you wake up late but still make time for breakfast, even if it's just five minutes. A slice of toast, a hot coffee, a quiet moment before everything begins. It's not slow, but it’s still done with care. A favourite mug, a napkin thrown over your lap, a plate instead of the wrapper.
Blue glass mugs - White & blue plates - Bauhaus tray - Red, blue, gold mugs - Yellow tumbler - Speckle plate (peach)
Whether it’s summer or winter, solo or rushed, the way we do breakfast is always personal, mood-driven but also a little revealing, in a very nice way. You always discover something about someone over breakfast especially when they order their coffee or tea.
So for fun, and because I couldn’t help myself, I’ve mapped out a few breakfast personalities. Maybe you’ll recognise yourself in one. Or all of them, depending on the day.
The Minimalist
Black americano. Espresso. No sugar. A slice of toast or a fruit. Usually on the go and something that requires zero prep. Efficient and no-nonsense.
The Maximalist
I want to believe that none of us is a maximalist every day but when we get the chance? We jump on the occasion. I know I do! Think tower of pancakes, lots of maple syrup, jams, pastries. A buffet table that actually makes you dizzy. But that’s the whole point.
The Healthy One
Celery and ginger juice or warm water with lemon as soon as they wake up. Tries different types of smoothies. Breakfast is usually green, blended or topped with chia, grains or adaptogens you’ve never heard of. The type I wish I was and although I’ve tried, I’ve fallen off the wagon way too many times.
The Wanderer
Never the same breakfast twice. Labneh and za’atar one morning, croissant and cappuccino the morning after that. They eat like they live, curious and spontaneous.
The Curator
The one who thinks about breakfast the night before, not what to eat but how to set the table, what cup to use and which spoons goes with the best jam. The table needs to feel inviting and should make you want to stay a while. Obviously this is not an everyday type. Definitely guilty of this one whenever I can!
