Every self-respecting adult should have a go-to chocolate cake recipe in their arsenal.
Whether you're pulling together a quick dessert for a dinner at home, on holiday with friends baking something fun with the kids, or simply indulging in a sweet treat for yourself, trust me — a chocolate cake is always the answer.

My recipe comes from Ninette, Lebanese cook extraordinaire and our second mom. In my circle, Ninette’s chocolate cake has a reputation of its own — friends often drop by our family home hoping she’s baked one.
So when I moved away (a long time ago now...), I made sure to carry her legacy with me, luring friends over with this beloved cake. And now, I’m generously sharing it with you so you, too, can bribe your friends into visiting :)
NINETTE’S CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE
Ingredients:
200g salted butter
150g sugar
3 eggs
200g dark chocolate (70%)
20cl heavy cream (15% fat)
80g flour
Instructions:
Melt the butter and chocolate together on low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the cream.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar. When the mixture turns pale, add the melted chocolate mixture, followed by the sifted flour and half a teaspoon of baking powder. Mix well.
Butter and flour a 25 cm cake pan.
Bake in a preheated oven at 150°C for 35 to 45 minutes.
The length of cooking all depends on your oven. I usually put a timer at 35 min and check with a knife if it’s cooked. I prefer the cake fondant-like so the knife should not be completely clean when you remove it.

I hope you’ll enjoy this cake as much as we all do and make comments below if you have any questions or you do an update to the recipe which you’d like to share!
